Is Joanna Gaines the next Oprah?
She already has books, a magazine and years of reality TV under her belt. But nothing ices the entertainment empire cake better than a television network. And Magnolia Network is on the way.
It’s only fitting that Oprah recently interviewed Joanna and Chip Gaines for her own television network (the Oprah Winfrey Network’s call letters are, awesomely, OWN). Joanna might not be the Queen of Talk, but she’s considered one of the most powerful women in entertainment, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Even though she wanted to be a broadcast news journalist, and graduated from Baylor University with a degree in communications, it’s her total domination of Modern Farmhouse and all the home lifestyle businesses she’s built with her intuitive design sensibility that have led her to the Magnolia Network.
Coming to a TV near you in 2022, this puts Joanna into the Oprah-level orbit of fame.
Like the savvy fixer upper she is, Joanna is taking over the Discovery DIY channel in a massive re-brand. A Magnolia app with streaming content will arrive earlier, on July 15, 2021, with plenty of content to tide you over. Plus a retail shopping platform.
Wait, did someone say shopping? We don’t have to wait until summer to get our Joanna Gaines consumer fix. Here’s some of our favorite Jo stuff.
Jo, as she’s known to her fans, has published multiple books, including the number one cookbook of 2018, which sold 1.3 million copies by November of that year, and the #2 bestseller across all book categories. Bested only by Michelle Obama’s memoir.
The same year, she also published “Homebody: A Guide to Creating Spaces You Never Want to Leave.” No one could have foretold that the entire world would be advised to stay home shortly after it was published. Needless to say, sales are still strong for the New York Times best seller.
So far we haven’t said much about Joanna’s husband, Chip. While some may view his achievement as Joanna adjacent, he was the original house flipper in the relationship. And he has his own NYT bestseller.
He also just published another literary foray, No Pain, No Gaines, which you can even get as an audio book. Great photo on the cover, Chip! But it’s Joanna who turned J-Lo (a design client) into a “fangirl.”
Instead of shining the spotlight solely on Joanna, we could just as easily go with the Power Couple classification, especially when you consider their net worth is a reported $20 million. In 2016, the Gaineses launched three collections: paint, wallpaper and furniture, along with the first issue of their quarterly magazine, the Magnolia Journal.
In 2017, Target came calling. An exclusive Magnolia Home line called Hearth and Home was born. Although now if you comb the interwebs, many of these items can be found on Amazon.
Their product lines run wide and deep. Don’t want to make a big commitment to the Magnolia lifestyle? Start off small, with a luxurious jar of hand cream. Bloom Moisturizing Cream Hand Balm Jar is scented with sparkling citrus, elegantly blended with petal soft lilies, crisp cedar wood, and seductive musk. Canadian friends, find Magnolia Home’s Restore bath bar here.
This ceramic jug is an almost iconic piece from Joanna’s kitchenware line. Joanna’s stoneware items from Hearth & Hand with Magnolia balance realiable rustic with her fresh designer eye.
Looking for some new dinnerware? This slightly misshapen set of stoneware with a sophisticated glazed finish glams up the traditional farmhouse plate.
Finally, if you’re jonesing for more Joanna recipes, she followed up her bestselling cookbook with a second volume of Magnolia Table, chock full with 145 new recipes. They include dishes she makes at home for Chip and the kids, but just in case you’re not heading to Texas anytime soon, she’s also included faves from their restaurants, Magnolia Table, Silos Baking Co and coffee shop, Magnolia Press.
We’ll see you on TV, Joanna!
